As a college student at Northeast Missouri State University in the late 70’s, his very first professional assignment was covering Bob Forsch’s first no-hitter for the St. Louis Cardinals. From that day, he knew sports reporting was for him, and he’s been on the sideline for many thrilling events since.
He was Sports Director at WGEM-TV in Quincy for 16 years, held the same position at KHQA for two years, and spent the previous two years at KTVO in Kirksville MO.
When the Rams won Super Bowl XXXIX with The Tackle at the 1-yard line, Steve was taping it from the 6-yard line. He was in Augusta, Georgia when Tiger Woods dominated the field to win his first Master’s championship, and was also there when Greg Norman collapsed to let Nick Faldo charge ahead on the back nine. He covered the Cardinals winners of the 1990’s, and was in the Kansas City Royals locker room when they won the I-70 Series.
But he’s also seen Bruce Douglas and Michael Payne lead the greatest team in IHSA history, Bill Heisler lead Warsaw to the state title, and many championships won by the Devils, Raiders, Hawks, and many area teams.
He is currently the Vice President of Fraternal Activities and Communications at Western Catholic Union, overseeing the organization’s charitable and social activities.
