Ceremony held Tuesday in Golden

The Adams County Coroner has placed the unclaimed, cremated remains of eight people into a crypt in Golden.

County Coroner John Myers II announced Wednesday that the remains were placed there Tuesday in a ceremony attended by his office, local clergy and Golden city officials. Last week the Adams County Board approved buying the crypt in the Golden Cemetery's Mausoleum for 300 dollars. It's part of a move by Myers and Adams County to further distance itself from a controversy over indigent burials. A story last year by the Associated Press highlighted former Coroner Jim Keller's policy of not releasing remains and death certificates to families who couldn't afford to pay one thousand dollars for a funeral and burial. Keller said the policy was adopted during the state's budget crisis, when the County did not have access to a fund used to pay for indigent burials.

Myers says that anyone who is interested in taking possession of any of the remains should call his office. The names, birth and dates of death of the eight people are available below.
