Adams County Sheriff's Department wants suit dropped

Adams County Sheriff's Department wants suit dropped

3 years, 7 months ago by Scott Hardy

Motion asking for dismissal filed Monday

A month after a wrongful-death lawsuit was filed against the Adams County Sheriff's Department and former Sheriff Brian VonderHaar, the County has asked that it be dismissed.

Court records show that on Monday, a motion was filed by attorneys representing the Sheriff's Department and VonderHaar, asking that the suit be dropped. It was filed August 25th, over the 2019 death of a Hancock County man in the jail. Dan Treadwell is suing on behalf of his father Garland Treadwell of Hamilton, who died of a heart attack while in custody last September. The elder Treadwell was being held on a theft charge. Dan Treadwell alleges that the Sheriff's Department knew Garland Treadwell had a heart condition, but didn't follow doctors orders for a follow-up visit.

Dan Treadwell is seeking over $50,000 in damages. No court date has been set in the case.
