AREA FARMERS REAP LARGE QUANTITIES OF CROPS

Marion County Missouri Farmers led the state in average corn yield in 2016. According to the National Agriculture Statistics Service - Marion county farmers averaged 188.4 bushels per acre (bpa). The statewide average yield was 163 bpa. Overall Missouri farmers harvest 570.5 million bushels of corn from 3.5 million acres.

Western Illinois farmers were among the top corn producers in the state raising an average of 207.7 bpa. Overall the state harvested over 2.25 billion bushels of corn from 11.45 million acres for a whopping 197 bpa average statewide - second only to Iowa's 203.

Iowans harvested 2.74 million bushels of corn in 2016.

Marion county also led Missouri in soybean yield with 59.6 bushels an acre. The statewide average soybean yield last fall was 49 bpa with a total of 241 million, 460 thousand bushels harvested from 5.4 million acres.

Soybean yield in Western Illinois was in the middle of the pack for the state at 60.2 bpa. Statewide - Illinois farmers harvested an average of 59 bpa with a total just short of 593 million bushels from 10.05 million acres.

Iowa led the nation with the highest soybean yield at 60.5 bpa but Illinois farmers harvested more acres to lead the nation in total bushels gathered.
