Jearden Hutchins has allegedly attacked guards twice before

Authorities have now identified the inmate who they say stabbed a staff member at the Northeast Correctional Center in Bowling Green with a home-made weapon.

The Missouri Department of Corrections Thursday identified the inmate as Jearden M. Hutchins. He's serving a 12-year sentence after being convicted in St. Louis County in 2011 on 2 counts of Robbery, 2 counts of Armed Criminal Action and one count of Burglary. Hutchins is also due to go on trial in Texas County, Missouri in September on two counts of violence to a prison guard or inmate, from two separate 2015 incidents at the South Central Correctional Center in Licking. The Department earlier said that the assault happened Wednesday. In an email, a Department spokesman said the employee was hospitalized, and is alert and stable. It also says that violence against staff or offenders is "taken seriously".

It added that offenders were restricted to their cells as part of a lock-down.
