Jaron Richards talked to one resident, while another called Sheriff

The Missouri State Highway Patrol has released more details about its' arrest Sunday of a New London man, including how two Marion County residents helped catch him.

The Patrol says they were first called Saturday afternoon around 1 PM, about a report of three people, one of whom later turned out to be 19 year old Jaron Richards, who appeared to be lost and were acting strangely near Philadelphia, Missouri. Troopers say they pursued the three in a vehicle on Highway 168, east of Philadelphia, but the three abandoned the vehicle in the Woodland area, southwest of Palmyra and fled on foot. Richards was then seen twice on Sunday, but not caught. Later that day, Richards allegedly made contact with an area resident who was working in his garage. The resident recognized Richards, based on information he had heard from a news alert, and started a conversation, while another person called the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. Richards was caught shortly after that by deputies.

Richards faces a felony charge of resisting arrest in Ralls County, and for violating parole on a 2016 conviction in Marion County for resisting arrest. He's in the Marion County Jail, and was due in court for a probation revocation hearing Monday morning.
