Monday night, the City Council heard from Mayor Kyle Moore that the State of Illinois has made a recommendation on what rate the city should set for its' property tax, a majority of which it uses to pay into police and firefighter pension funds. According to Moore, the state's rate is higher than the nearly 7.4% hike recommended by the private firm hired by the city.

One way the city is trying to bring in more money for pensions is through a proposed ordinance that would increase the number of video gaming machines for some vendors.
