Can you spell ADHD?
As our society continues to race to the “it’s all about me” square on the game board of life I, having six plus decades on the planet, have to ask; what in the world is going on? Does anyone under the age of 40 have a clue?
A couple of observations:
I recently had lunch at one of the nicer sit down chain restaurants. The lunch specials are pretty good and the service, for the most part, is too. Upon our arrival the ear drums of both my guest and I were bombarded with Classic Rock played at a level you might hear at someone’s party on Friday night. This is ambiance? The stuff was LOUD! The content and the decibel level didn’t match the lunch clientele. 
Like, at all. And while I do like Classic Rock I don’t like it to the point where I have to almost shout to carry on a conversation. Maybe that’s just me, but this place has just made my “I’m going somewhere else for lunch list” based on this issue. The question here: why doesn’t someone in management do something about this? Are you deaf? Maybe they are. By the way, we got to hear “Are You Experienced” by the late Jimi Hendrix on the way out the door. Darn, and me without a tie-dye shirt…
And then there’s this; while shopping at a chain discount store I actually had a cashier take a call on her cell phone while ringing up my order. First, I thought it inappropriate that she had her phone in her work area, but was gobsmacked when she actually took the call. With an eye roll and a hair flip she, with the line in her checkout lane about 6 deep, proceeded to laugh and giggle her way through the conversation all while attempting to work my transaction into her day. I will give her credit; she got it all correct. But the deal left me wondering if, indeed, the customer comes first is part of that company’s employee handbook.
Maybe it’s the warm weather, the upcoming election, the economy, the Cubs in the World Series, who knows? But one thing is for sure- if what I experienced the past few days is a preview of things to come we the consumer are in for a rough way to go.
Maybe it's stuff like this that is causing so many of us to shop on-line….
