April municipal election was delayed due to COVID-19; Lewis, Ralls County voters to decide school tax measures

Today is Election Day in Northeast Missouri for various municipalities.

The election was originally set for April, but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Hannibal voters will decide on Proposition R. That's asking residents to approve a monthly fee of a dollar 90 per month, to support the city's recycling program for three years. Monroe City voters will choose between Jerry Potterfield and John Long for the Mayor's job.

Other issues on the ballot include two school tax measures. Lewis County C-1 voters will vote on Proposition K.I.D.S., which would increase the District's operating tax levy by 80 cents per one hundred dollars assessed value. District officials say the money would be used for meeting the District's additional operating needs. Ralls County R-2 voters are being asked to approve two ballot issues that would pay for a five-year plan to improve the district's buildings. The Marion County R-2, Ralls County R-2 and Clark County R-1 School District voters will choose from six candidates to fill three seats on their school boards. Similar votes for the Hannibal, Palmyra and Monroe City School Boards won't be contested. The Lewis County Nursing Home District is asking to raise its' property tax rate by 11 cents per $100 assessed value. Ralls County voters will also decide on whether they want to continue a 1/2-cent sales tax to pay for roads and bridges, law enforcement and for the county's General Revenue fund.

Polls close at 7 tonight.
