MO DNR says it's in Lewis, Pike and Adair Counties
The Missouri Department of Natural Resources says that the Emerald Ash Borer has been found in 11 more counties, including three in Northeast Missouri.
DNR said Thursday that its foresters recently found the pest in Lewis, Pike and Adair counties. They say it's also been found in the home counties of Cape Girardeau, Springfield and Jefferson City. In all, the EAB is now in 53 Missouri counties and the city of St. Louis. That includes all the counties in Northeast Missouri bordering the Mississippi River, as well as Scotland and Schuyler counties. EAB is a small, metallic green beetle native to Asia that only attacks ash trees. It kills more than 99% of the ash trees it attacks within 3 to 4 years of infestation.
Cases of the pest have also been found in Adams and Hancock counties in Western Illinois.
