Gene Grawe fund raises over a quarter million dollars

Gene Grawe fund raises over a quarter million dollars

7 years ago From Press Release

What’s been described as a “no-brainer” is now pretty heady stuff for nearly 500 Quincy families, as they get to knock off $250,573.46 off Catholic school tuition this upcoming school year.

494 families have purchased gift cards from the Gene Grawe Fund this past year.  One family has earned over $3,000 from the fund, while 47 families get more than $1,000.  On the average, each family receives $507.23 for next school year.

Gift cards are purchased for groceries, gas, restaurants, travel, home improvements and daily shopping, and with the help of many local businesses, and modern technology, the fund is bigger than ever and has never been easier to use.  “I had one lady tell me that that she forgot to get a card, drove into the gas station, logged onto shopwithscrip.com, and was ready for her purchase before the gas was done pumping,”  JoAnn Witte, Gene Grawe Fund president, said.

Last year $228,736.41 was awarded, and this year’s total was nearly $22,000 more.  Since the Fund began eleven years ago, families have received $1,438,645.11.

“Every purchase helps every family,” Witte said.  “If each family would ask one more family to join them, just imagine what we could do.”

Families need to register early to be able to take part in the full year of the program.

The Gene Grawe Fund is named after JoAnn’s father, who was an officer with the Western Catholic Union for many years.  The office is located at St. Peter Catholic Church, 2600 Maine Street.
