937 new COVID-19 cases reported, 26 new deaths

Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker says he'll extend orders that are keeping most people in their homes, and kids out of school, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Governor Pritzker said Tuesday that he will sign executive orders Wednesday that will extend his stay-at-home order, and his earlier order that closed the state's schools, to April 30th. Pritzker said that public safety is his prime objective.

The Governor told state schools that they'll switch from act of God days to remote learning days, and that all those days will count toward the school year and that no days will have to be made up. Pritzker also said that he's signed an order that limits transfers from county jails to the Illinois Department of Corrections. Pritzker said that each state facility can accept incoming inmates on their own discretion. The move was made to stem a possible rapid spread of the virus through the state's prison system.

The Illinois Department of Public Health says there are 937 new cases of COVID-19, with 26 additional deaths. State-wide, nearly 6,000 people have tested positive, and 99 people have died.
