Says efforts by local and state officials "likely saved lives"

Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, after touring sand-bagging operations in Meredosia, says that efforts by local and state officials have likely saved lives.

Pritzker made that comment Wednesday after touring flood-prep operations in the Morgan County city affected by the rising Illinois River. He re-counted some of the measures he took after learning that the Illinois River was on the rise.

Officials say that at Meredosia, enough sandbags are in place to protect the village if the river rises to 30 feet. The Illinois is forecast to be cresting at Meredosia at just over 25 feet over the next day. The river's also cresting at LaGrange Lock and Dam, and Valley City.
