Apparently suffered "medical emergency" behind wheel

A Hancock County man is dead, after suffering a medical emergency behind the wheel Monday afternoon.

Hancock County Sheriff Scott Bentzinger says that a 64-year-old man from Dallas City crashed just after 3:30 PM at the intersection of Illinois Highway 9 and County Road 2700 North. In a statement, Bentzinger says that the man's vehicle crashed after he became unconscious behind the wheel. A passenger, a 58-year-old Dallas City woman tried unsuccessfully to control the car after it went off the road, and it crashed near the intersection. The woman was taken to Great River Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Bentzinger said more information would be released once family members are notified.
