Gary Haynes allegedly tried to rob F&M Bank Friday with a hammer

A Hannibal man's facing a weapon charge, after trying to rob a Hannibal bank Friday afternoon with a hammer.

Hannibal Police identify the man as 42-year old Gary Haynes, and say the incident happened just before 3 PM Friday at the F&M Bank at 5th and Broadway. Police say in a statement they were called to the bank about a disturbance in the bank. They say that Haynes was in the bank "wielding a hammer like weapon and demanding money from the bank." Police arrested Haynes outside the bank in the 500 block of Broadway. He was charged Saturday in Marion County with one count of Unlawful Use of a Weapon. He's in the Marion County Jail on $50,000 cash-only bond, and will likely be in court Friday.

Police say no one was hurt in the incident.
