Accident happened Monday near Monkey Run
A 19-year-old Hannibal man has died after getting hit by a train in northeast Missouri.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Alec Ogden died from his injuries Monday. They say the teenager was walking along the tracks north of Monkey Run on Highway 79 when he was hit at around 4:30 p.m. "He didn't hear an approaching train coming south out of Hannibal and it hit him," Ralls County Sheriff Dinwiddie said. "He was knocked by a railroard car." Ogden was taken via helicopter to Blessing Hospital where he died.
The Highway Patrol said Jared Dieker, 31, of Quincy, Illinois, was driving the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Freight Train south when the accident happened.
