Cites $21 million in economic output

On the heels of a report saying that Illinois's community colleges have a multi-billion dollar economic impact in the state, John Wood Community College says it has a multi-million dollar impact in Western Illinois.

On Thursday, John Wood released data it provided to the Illinois Community College Board, saying that it had nearly $14 million in spending in fiscal year 2020. That includes wages, salaries and capital costs. John Wood also says it paid over $8.4 million in wages and benefits to its 266 employees. About 329 jobs in the district could be attributed to the college's operations, which John Wood says are associated with about $21.2 million dollars in economic output. John Wood says that according to the report, they also help the region's economy by addressing employers’ workforce needs. They say that in a survey of the community colleges’ business engagement, in 2019, 118 employers were served by credit or non-credit programs at John Wood. Last year, that increased to 128 employers who were served by John Wood.

Statewide, the community college system accounts for $3.5 billion in economic output and over 43,000 jobs.
