4-year deal could be approved Wednesday
A strike by members of Machinists Lodge 822 against the Knapheiede Manufacturing Company appears to have been averted at the last minute.
The two sides announced a tentative agreement Wednesday afternoon on a new four-year contract. Details of the agreement have not yet been disclosed. The announcement of the new deal came just hours before an extension of the current agreement was set to expire. The company said in a statement that the agreement will go into effect once it's ratified by the union. They plan to hold a vote on Wednesday. The statement also says that the union's bargaining committee is unanimously recommending that the new contract be approved.
Machinists Lodge 822 members overwhelmingly rejected a previous offer last week. If they reject the new offer, picket lines would be set up Monday morning.
