Lawyers for Marcus Mays filed motion Friday

Lawyers for a LaGrange man, charged with murder in the August 2018 death of a child he was watching, want more evidence from prosecutors, and the University of Missouri.

Those lawyers filed a motion Friday on behalf of Marcus Mays in Lewis County Circuit Court. They want prosecutors and the University of Missouri School of Medicine's Department of Pathology to turn over evidence in the case. A hearing on the motion hasn't been set yet. Mays is set to have a four day trial starting May 26th in Adair County Circuit Court on a change of venue from Lewis County. Mays has pleaded Not Guilty to counts of 2nd degree murder, child abuse, child endangerment and drug possession. He was first charged after an incident in mid-August 2018 at his trailer where he was watching 2-year-old Taylen Allen. Mays was arrested after the child was taken to Blessing Hospital with severe injuries. She died five days later at Children's Hospital in St. Louis, after allegedly being hit in the head numerous times. A preliminary autopsy report revealed in court blamed the child's death on Mays.

He's in the Lewis County Jail on $1 million cash-only bond.
