Another week of below average precipitation continued to aid the advancement of row crop harvesting. There were 6.7 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending October 2. Temperatures averaged 61.6 degrees, 1.6 degrees below normal. Precipitation averaged 0.16 inches statewide, 0.60 inches below normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 3 percent very short, 13 percent short, 79 percent adequate, and 5 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 2 percent very short, 9 percent short, 87 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. Corn mature reached 98 percent, 8 percentage points ahead of last year and 6 percentage points ahead of the 5-year average. Corn harvested for grain was 56 percent complete, compared to 61 percent last year and 57 percent for the 5-year average. Corn condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 18 percent fair, 54 percent good, and 21 percent excellent. Soybeans turning color reached 86 percent, compared to 81 percent for the 5-year average. Soybeans dropping leaves progressed to 61 percent. Soybean harvest was 13 complete, compared to 10 percent for the 5-year average. Soybean condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 3 percent poor, 20 percent fair, 56 percent good, and 19 percent excellent. Cotton bolls opening reached 86 percent, compared to 74 percent for the 5-year average. Cotton harvest was 14 percent complete, 5 percentage point ahead of the 5-year average. Rice harvest was 83 percent complete. Sorghum harvest was 35 percent complete. Winter wheat planted reached 9 percent, compared to 10 percent for the 5-year average. Pasture condition was rated 3 percent poor, 30 percent fair, 58 percent good, and 9 percent excellent.
