Jerry Asbell, Jr. faces murder count in August 2019 death of Amanda Johnston

A Monroe City man, charged in the August death of a Monroe City woman, has had his case delayed two months.

Jerry Asbell, Jr. was in Warren County Circuit Court Monday for a trial setting. Records show that on a defense motion, the hearing was delayed to April 26th. The case is being held in Warren County on a change of venue. Asbell is charged with counts of 1st Degree Murder, two counts of Armed Criminal Action, Kidnapping and Assault. He’s charged in the disappearance and death of Amanda Johnston, who had been reported missing August 5th. Her body was found several days later in Pike County, Missouri. A co-defendant, Jessica Ellsworth faces one count of evidence tampering. She'll be back in court in April.

Asbell and Ellsworth are both being held in the Monroe County Jail without bond.
