Covering possible $800K loss in state funding

The City of Quincy may have to increase fees next fiscal year to help cover a shortfall from the state of Illinois.

That's according to Quincy Mayor Kyle Moore, who appeared Tuesday on WTAD's News Round Table. Moore says in fiscal year 2018, the city will receive $800,000 less from the state of Illinois, and that there's not much left to cut in the city's budget.

Moore says the city is studying how other cities are handling the loss of state money, along with where the city can save money, and what he called quote, "un-intrusive" increases in user fees. Moore hopes a plan can be devised with the City Council by the end of the year.
