Joel Box to be sentenced July 19

A former John Wood and Quincy University basketball star, who's admitted he stole from clients of his business, will now be sentenced next month.

Records show that on Monday, an order was issued setting a July 19th sentencing date for Joel Box in Adams County Circuit Court. That's after a late-April date was stricken. Box pleaded Guilty in March to one count of Theft over $10,000. He was indicted in early August 2019, and arrested in Rockford two weeks later. Box admitted that between November 2018 and June 2019, he took payments for lessons and camps at his business, Joel Box Evolution Basketball, and never held the lessons or camps. The case came to light after the local Better Business Bureau released a statement, warning consumers about Box.

He's free on $100,000 bond.
