Anthony Villeme loses appeal; serving 10-year sentence

A Palmyra man, found Guilty of Elder Abuse after a 2016 incident, has had his conviction in Monroe County upheld by an Appeals Court.

Records show that an appeal filed in 2017 by Anthony Villeme was denied in mid-May by the Missouri Eastern District Court of Appeals. Villeme is currently serving a 10-year sentence after his conviction. A jury found that Villeme hit 74-year old James Church of Palmyra several times in the face in June 2016. Villeme's defense had argued that he acted in self-defense, after Church purportedly lunged at one of Villeme’s children.

Because Elder Abuse is a Class A felony in Missouri, Villeme will have to serve a minimum of 85 per cent of his sentence.
