Marion Co. Prosecutor David Clayton announced bequest

Palmyra schools will be receiving some extra revenue, thanks to a 10th Circuit Court judge's ruling.

Marion County Prosecuting Attorney David Clayton said Tuesday that the Palmyra School District will get $4,000 in cash, forfeited through a 2017 drug bust. The final order by Judge Rachel Bringer Shepherd was handed down Monday, after Clayton filed to seize the money under a Missouri state law. In a statement, Clayton says that under the Criminal Activity Forfeiture Act, any cash related to criminal activity can be seized and ordered to be transferred to a local school district. The money was found during a September 2017 arrest on US 61 in Palmyra. A Des Moines man, Quincy Hale, was stopped by Palmyra police who found 4 grams of ecstasy and the cash. Hale pleaded Guilty to a possession count, and received a suspended 7-year sentence and probation.

Clayton is quoted in the statement as saying, "From a negative can come a positive when drug money is taken away from criminals and transferred to schools."
