Population falls in Adams, Marion Counties

2018 population estimates released by Census Bureau

New figures released Thursday by the U.S. Census Bureau show that from 2017 to 2018, the population in most counties in the WTAD listening area fell.

Those figures show that in 2018, the estimated population in Adams County was 65,691, down just over 400 people from 2017. Populations in other Western Illinois counties also fell in 2018, with McDonough County losing 368 people, to fall below 30,000. Hancock County saw a decrease of 129 people, while Brown, Pike and Schuyler Counties all saw drops of between 55 and 70 people. In Northeast Missouri, Marion County saw a decrease of 21 people in 2018. The county has an estimated population of just under 28,600. Lewis, Knox, Pike and Ralls Counties also saw population drops. Three counties saw their population increase though. Monroe and Shelby counties were up by about 6 tenths of a per cent, and Clark County saw a 1 point 7 per cent jump in population in 2018. Lee County, Iowa saw a decrease of 188 people, leaving it with just over 34,000 people.
