8,500 hog facility planned off Highway 81
A public meeting about a proposed hog confinement facility north of Canton will be held tonight.
The facility, or CAFO, would be located about seven miles north of Canton on Highway 81. Expedition Acres, LLC of Carthage, Illinois wants to build the facility to hold some 8,500 hogs. The facility would be managed by Professional Swine Management. Nearby residents are opposed to the location, claiming run-off from the facility could contaminate nearby wells that supply Canton's water supply. The company says that 22 full time jobs would be created.
Tonight's meeting for residents starts at 6:30 PM at Canton High School.
