Rally also planned in Macomb
Teachers in Quincy and Macomb plan to rally Monday, to protest the continuing lack of funding for public and secondary education in Illinois.
The Quincy Federation of Teachers plans to hold a "We Love Our School" rally at 6:55 AM in front of Quincy High School. Illinois Federation of Teachers union President Dan Montgomery plans to be at the rally. In a press release, the union says the state owes "significant “categorical” reimbursements for transportation, special education services, and the early childhood program." A rally and march in Macomb is set for Noon, starting at Chandler Park, and ending at the office of State Representative Norine Hammond.
The IFT announced the rallies Wednesday, as part of a state-wide effort by the union to not only get funding for schools that the state is behind on, but also to make sure that higher education is "funded fully and more equitably".
