Results now with State's Attorney's office

Quincy police say they have turned over to prosecutors the results of their investigation into an Easter Sunday assault of a Quincy University student at a nightclub.

QPD Deputy Chief Shannon Pilkington said Wednesday that detectives have completed their investigation into the April 4th incident at The Barn on South Front Street. Jazzpher Evans has alleged she was beaten by club owner Steve Homan until she lost consciousness. In a statement, Pilkington said that the case has been sent to the Adams County State's Attorney's office for any possible charges. He said that a separate investigation into any possible liquor license violations would be completed by the end of the week.

Pilkington says that both investigations are "still open and ongoing." He says that anyone with any information should contact them. The full statement is below.

On April 4th, 2021, the Quincy Police Department began a criminal investigation into an incident that occurred at “The Barn,” 711 South Front Street, Quincy, IL.

Shortly thereafter a separate administrative investigation was initiated to look into any possible liquor license violations at the establishment.

The primary criminal investigation has concluded.  The case has been sent to the Adams County State’s Attorney for review and consideration of criminal charges.  The administrative investigation will conclude in the next day or two.  Once complete that case will be sent to the Office of the City of Quincy Liquor Commissioner, Mayor Kyle Moore, for review and consideration of action against the establishment’s liquor license.

Detectives with the Quincy Police Department’s Investigations Unit have worked tirelessly over the last 10 days reviewing evidence, locating witnesses, and conducting interviews.  Both investigations are still open and ongoing.  Anyone with additional information regarding either the criminal or administrative investigations should not hesitate to reach out to the Quincy Police Department.
