New bleachers will be installed in Quincy High's gym, LED lighting in two buildings

The Quincy Public School Board Wednesday night approved two construction projects .

The Board voted to accept low bids to install new bleachers at Quincy High's gym. The cost is $140,000. The board also agreed to spend about $106,000 on new LED lighting for 2 buildings. A hefty rebate for energy savings from Ameren Illinois will lower the districts cost to only $68,000. Officials say the payback for the investment is just over 4 years because of lower utility bills. The School Board learned that on Wednesday, QPS delivered 2,800 breakfast and lunch meals to students. Students also received in-person or by computer their learning packets to guide their out of school lessons through April 7th. School Board President Sayeed Ali says the work of staff during spring break and the covid 19 shut-down quote, "has been nothing short of remarkable." He says the entire board could not be more proud of their efforts to serve children and families.

The Quincy Public School Board held its' first meeting entirely by teleconference, after a relaxing of state rules due to the coronavirus. Ali gaveled the meeting to order and was the only board member at the office. The others joined, each from their own isolation, via phone.
