The Quincy City Council Monday night voted 8 to 6 to approve a new labor deal with Quincy Firefighters Local 63. That's after the Council rejected the same deal last week 7 to 6. Quincy Mayor Kyle Moore has said if there was a tie vote, he would have voted in favor of the deal. The firefighters will get a 2% raise the first year, followed by 2.5% the second year, and 2.75% the third year. They'll also get two more holidays per year, which matches the Quincy Police Department. Moore explains that the sticking point with some Aldermen was insurance, which stays the same.

That would be from 90 to 45 sick days total. Moore says the city budgets $700,000 a year for sick-day buy backs, and that the reduction by firefighters will save the city $70,000 to $100,000 over the life of the contract. Moore also stressed the importance of avoiding arbitration, saying that the city would likely have lost had that happened.
