3rd Ward Alderman died in car crash; City approves special events policy

It was a somber meeting Monday night of the Quincy City Council. Scott Hardy explains why.

(  Audio  1:59  )

The meeting was the first since the death of 3rd Ward Alderman Tom Ernst on Saturday. Several aldermen shared their thoughts about Ernst at the meeting, as did Mayor Kyle Moore. Afterwards, Moore spoke more about what Alderman Ernst brought to the Council.

Moore said that no decision has been made, nor discussions even held, about who will succeed Ernst on the City Council. The Mayor has sole discretion in naming a successor, but has relied in the past on both local parties to help in the selection process. The Council also approved a policy and application for any future special events that will be held in the city. Moore explains some of what it will cover.

The policy, meant to be more of a guide, and an application will be posted today on the City's website.
