Money will be used to add 65 units to Fredrick Ball apartments

The Quincy Housing Authority has won a grant that will let it create more low-income apartments on the city's northwest side.

The Illinois Housing Development Authority announced Friday that it's awarded more than 28 million dollars in federal Low-Income Housing Tax Credits. That will fund 25 affordable housing developments in 16 counties throughout Illinois. One of those developments is Quincy's Fredrick Ball complex. A statement from IHDA says that Brinshore Development, LLC, the Quincy Housing Authority and the Quincy Development Association will create 65 affordable apartments across a mixture of new and rehabilitated construction, just north of The District. Existing units will be redeveloped, and the development will include a new parking area and playground.

Rushville Homes in Rushville also was awarded credits Friday. They'll go toward building a scattered-site, new construction development that will create 24 affordable housing units designed to blend in with neighboring homes. Each home will have an attached garage, covered front porch and be constructed from sustainable design elements.
