Blessing wants to build new 35,000 sq.ft. two-story complex on main campus

A state review board will hold a public hearing later this month on a request by Blessing Health System to build a new ambulatory Surgery Center.

The Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board said Tuesday that the hearing will be held August 19th from 10 AM to 2 PM in Council Chambers at Quincy City Hall. The public hearing was requested last month by Quincy Medical Group, which is also building their own Surgery Center in the former Bergner's building in the Quincy Mall. QMG says they're not opposed to Blessing's proposal, but asked for the hearing "due to QMG’s desire to learn more about it and to establish a forum through which QMG and the public can engage with Blessing in continued conversation." Blessing filed a request in late June to build a 35 thousand square foot, $21 million, two-story Surgical Center on its' main campus. The Review Board plans to decide on Blessing's plans at its' September 17th meeting. Blessing had earlier asked for that date, so that it can get started on construction this year.

Blessing hopes to have the new Surgery Center finished by late January 2022.
