Prosecution request granted; trial now set for February 12

A Quincy man, accused of murder in the 2015 shooting death of Carlous Wires, Senior, has had his trial delayed a month, after a hearing Wednesday.

Steven Gavin was in Adams County Circuit Court for a status hearing, ahead of a January 14th trial. Court records show that a prosecution motion to delay the trial was granted, over an objection by the defense. The trial is now set to start February 12th. Gavin's pleaded Not Guilty to four counts of First Degree Murder and one count of Armed Robbery. Prosecutors say Gavin shot and killed Wires, and then robbed him in his home in the 700 block of North 4th Street in November, 2015, due to a disagreement over a drug sale.

Gavin remains in the Adams County Jail on $5 million bond.
