The NFL and Hollywood? Taking a Knee here Boss

The NFL and Hollywood? Taking a Knee here Boss

6 years, 7 months ago Mike Moyers

Taking a knee.

That’s been the big thing in the NFL the past couple of years.  That, along with some bad football and questionable moves by the NFL front office, has led to many, not all, but many fans saying, “the hell with this stuff.”

Sports USED TO BE a safe place for those of us who just wanted to be entertained by gifted athletes.  Hey, let’s have a few beers talk some (insert sport here) and watch the game. The sport didn’t matter; we just wanted to see good stuff and get away from it all.

And then politics became the flavor of the day.  The athletes we used to enjoy watching suddenly became “activists.”  They hide behind designer sunglasses and “get real.”  Good for them....I think.

You know, I do my best to keep politics out of this blog.  But it’s to the point where it’s not safe to watch live, professional sports anymore.  Other than golf, there seems to be an endless supply of athletes taking a knee, raising a fist, dissing the Star Spangled Banner and flipping off America. Ownership looks the other way while ESPN, NBC and CBS focus on the player or two who are exercising their first amendment rights.

I don’t get it.

And Hollywood? Really?  I can’t tell you the number of people I know who have stopped going to the movies-period. And from the looks of things they’re not the only ones.   August 2017 was one of the worst box office months EVER. And that’s coming off of a pretty thin July.  Middle America is tired of hearing the nasty and negative comments provided by the Hollywood set.  It's off putting.  It's another reason NOT to go to the movies.  Which, for the most part, have been pretty bad lately

The Silent Majority in this nation is tired of being preached to, tired of being told we’re stupid, tired of being called deplorable, tired of being called racists, and then being asked to smile and grab the ankles.

We’re tired of Colin Kaepernick and all the rest of those who go on a rant and then claim they were “misquoted.”    Oh, and ESPN, we're sick to death of you too.

So, I, like many in this country, will be spending less time with the NFL and more time reading a book, hanging with the family and enjoying friends.

Stan Kroenke, Roger Godell and all the rest of the rest of you in the NFL hierarchy; congratulations.   You've turned The National Football League into something I can live without.

Thank you for giving me my Sundays back.

AND BY THE WAY, I didn't watch the Emmy Awards Sunday night.   And apparently you didn't either.
