Arrested Monday on Obstruction in connection with daughter's death

The mother of 7 year old Melina Torres is free on bond, one day after it was revealed the girl was allegedly shot with a rifle by a three year old at a family gathering.

Karen Torres is due in court June 6th on an Obstruction of Justice charge, after her arrest Monday by Adams County Sheriff's deputies. Two other relatives, Torres's uncle, 32 year old Daniel Roberts, and her Grandmother, 49 year old Julie Roberts, both appeared Monday in Adams County court, in connection with the accidental shooting, which allegedly happened during target practice at a family gathering Friday at Julie Roberts's home southeast of Liberty, in Beverly Township. Authorities now say Daniel Roberts gave a loaded 22 caliber rifle to a three year old, and that the child accidentally shot Melina. He's charged with endangering the Life of a Child, Possession of Weapon by a Felon, and Obstruction of Justice. Julie Roberts faces two counts of Obstruction.

Daniel Roberts is in the Adams County Jail on 100 thousand dollars' bond, and will be back in court for a preliminary hearing June 1st.
