Today, September 25th, is National Voter Registration Day.

According to the website nationalvoterregistrationday.org - the fourth Tuesday of September has been established as a national holiday celebrating our democracy. It was first observed in 2012. The holiday has been endorsed by the National Association of Secretaries of State and is further supported by the National Association of State Election Directors. During National Voter Registration Day, volunteers and organizations all over the country hit the streets for a day of field, technology and media efforts. Their goal is to reach tens of thousands of voters who may not register otherwise. In 2016, over 750 thousand voters across all 50 states used the day to register to vote.

The last day to register for the November 6th election in Illinois is October 9th. In Missouri it's October tenth and in Iowa the deadline is 10 days before the general election. Illinois and Iowa have exceptions for late registration.
