Rates still well above figures from 2019

Unemployment rates continue to fall in Quincy and Adams County from the big jumps seen in the spring, but the numbers remain much higher than this time last year. :

Numbers released Thursday by the Illinois Department of Employment Security show that in June, unemployment fell in Quincy by 1.6 per cent to 9.7 per cent. In Adams County, the rate fell by 1. 7 per cent, to 8.8 per cent. Those numbers are still 5.5 to 6 per cent higher than last June. Nearly all other counties saw a drop in unemployment, led by Hancock County's 2.7 per cent decline. The exception was McDonough County, which saw just over a one per cent jump, to over 11 per cent. In Hannibal and Marion County, rates also fell in June, but not by nearly as much. Both Hannibal and Marion County saw a two tenths drop in June, to around 6 per cent. That's still nearly double the rate from last June. Most Northeast Missouri counties also saw a drop in June, led by Clark County's 3.6 per cent decline. Both Lewis and Shelby Counties saw increases in June. In fact, Shelby County's was up by 9 tenths of a per cent.

Lee County, Iowa saw a 3.3 per cent drop in June, to 8.9 per cent.
