Unemployment numbers keep falling in Quincy, Adams County

IDES numbers show that rates dropped nearly 2% in July

Unemployment rates continue to fall in Quincy and Adams County, but are still well above last year's levels.

According to data recently released by the Illinois Department of Employment Security, July's jobless rate in Quincy was at 7.6 per cent. That's just over two per cent less than in June, but nearly 4 per cent higher than last July. In Adams County, the July rate was 6.9 per cent. That's down nearly two per cent from June, but still nearly 3 and a half per cent higher than last July. The rate for the Quincy - Hannibal job market in July was also 6.9 per cent, down over 1 and a half per cent from June. Similar numbers were recorded for every Western Illinois county in the listening area, with Brown County's July rate now below 5 per cent. Both Hannibal and Marion County had a minimal one tenth per cent decrease in July. Both are now just under 6 per cent unemployment. Only Pike County, Missouri showed measurable job growth in July, with a 1.3 per cent drop. Knox, Lewis and Shelby Counties all showed increases in July.

Lee County, Iowa's unemployment rate stayed unchanged in July, at 7.2 per cent.
