IDES says rates rose by half a per cent to 4.8%
Unemployment figures for January rose by a half a percentage point in both Quincy and Adams County.
Those rates, released Thursday by the Illinois Department of Employment Security, show that in January, the unemployment rose to 4.8% in both Quincy and Adams County. That's up by 4 tenths from last January. The rate for the Quincy-Hannibal combined market rose by 7 tenths in January to 4.4%. Rates rose in all other Western Illinois counties, led by a one per cent jump in McDonough County, and a 9 tenths of a per cent rise in Pike County. In Northeast Missouri, Hannibal saw a one per cent jump, and Marion County saw a one point one per cent hike in unemployment. Both are 3.9%, which is higher than in January 2018. All Northeast Missouri counties saw their rates increase as well, with Shelby County also showing a one per cent jump, and both Clark and Pike Counties going up by 9 tenths of a per cent.
In Lee County, the unemployment rate went up by 6 tenths of a per cent to 4.2%. That's still over 1 per cent lower than last January.
