Sent letter to Governor Rauner Monday
Four Illinois legislators on the joint House and Senate Veterans Committees, holding hearings on the Legionnaires' outbreaks at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, say they want to hear from Governor Bruce Rauner by Friday.
The four, led by Democratic State Senator Tom Cullerton, sent a letter Monday to Rauner, asking for more information from Special Advisor Mike Hoffman and heads of the Illinois Departments of Public Health and Veterans Affairs. Cullerton and the others asked for a status update on plans for the Vets Home be presented at a hearing last Thursday. Hoffman was at the hearing, but IDPH Head Dr. Nirav Shah and Veterans Affairs head Erica Jeffries weren't. The letter also says that the four legislators, who include State Senator Sam McCann, are ready to pass legislation to speed up the rebuilding of the Vets Home. McCann has announced a third-party bid for Illinois Governor this November.
In a statement, Cullerton said he still hopes Rauner's administration will work with the General Assembly to quickly fix the problem at the Vets Home. The full letter is below.
