6 years, 11 months ago by Scott Hardy

Accused of murdering step-father outside Canton in late April

A Canton man, charged with First Degree Murder in the alleged shooting death of his step-father, will have a preliminary hearing next month.

19 year old Cody Wilson was in Lewis County court Monday for a hearing one count of 1st Degree Murder and one count of Armed Criminal Action. That's where he learned that his preliminary hearing will be held June 28th. Wilson's accused of shooting and killing his step-father, 56 year old David Brooks, with a handgun he kept in a drawer in his room. Authorities say the shooting happened late last month at a home just west of Canton. A probable cause statement says that Brooks and his wife were arguing all day, and that Wilson admitted to authorities that after waking up from a nap and hearing more arguing, he snapped, and then shot Brooks in the couple's bedroom.

Wilson’s in the Lewis County Jail on $1 million bond.
