Cody Johnson found Guilty in fatal shooting of Chris Ellington

A Hancock County man has been convicted of fatally shooting an Augusta man in December 2020.

A jury, after deliberating for just under three hours Thursday afternoon, found Cody Johnson Guilty on four counts of First-degree murder, along with two counts each of home invasion and aggravated discharge of a firearm in the death of Christopher Ellington. Johnson and a co-defendant, Michael Garcia, entered Ellington's home in the 600 block of Main Street in Augusta on the night of December 18th, 2020. Johnson then shot Ellington once in the leg with a shotgun. Johnson and Garcia were arrested in southern Georgia five days after the murder. Last week, Garcia pleaded Guilty to a Class X count of home invasion as part of a settlement with prosecutors. The day after the plea, he testified against Johnson.

Johnson, who could get up to 80 years in prison when he's sentenced April 23rd, is in the Hancock County Jail
