Trial for Amy Jo Allen delayed

A former Hannibal Middle School employee, accused of having had inappropriate contact with a student in 2021, faces a new charge and has had a Tuesday court date and her trial delayed.

Amy Jo Allen was due in Marion County Circuit Court Tuesday for a pre-trial hearing, ahead of a June 21st trial. Records show that on Monday, she was charged with a second count of statutory sodomy, along with one count of Sexual Contact with a Student. Last December, Allen was set to be sentenced, as part of a settlement with prosecutors. However, Judge David Mobley rejected the settlement, allowed Allen to withdraw her Guilty plea. Prosecutors have said that the incidents happened in 2021. Police say their investigation started in late May that year, when the Hannibal School District told police about the alleged contact between Allen, who was a para-professional, and the student. Allen was fired in early June 2021, after being put on leave when the District learned about the allegation. She remains free on a recognizance bond, but is under house arrest.

A new court date hasn't been set.
