Jacob Wilson charged in Monday afternoon incident where officer fired several shots.

Hannibal police have released the name of the man arrested Monday afternoon, in an incident where a HPD officer fired their weapon.

The man's been identified as 37-year old Jacob Wilson, and police say he was charged Tuesday in Marion County with counts of Unlawful Use a Weapon, and Harassment. Police say that the charges are a result of what happened just after 5:00 P.M> Monday in the 1200 block of Center Street. A lengthy description from the HPD says that when the officer arrived, Wilson had a knife in one hand and showed that he had a handgun in his waistband. Police say that even though the officer told Wilson to not reach for any weapons, he took out the handgun and started pointing it at the officer. Police released three photos showing Wilson holding both the handgun and the knife, and pointing the gun at the officer. Police say that Wilson didn't listen to the officer to put down his weapon, and the officer then took cover and fired rounds at Wilson, which were deflected by the patrol vehicle. Wilson wasn't hit by the gunfire, but fell to the ground and was arrested. Police say that later, they figured out that Wilson's firearm didn't work. Wilson was first taken to Hannibal Regional Hospital, and is now in the Marion County Jail on $50,000 cash-only bond. He's due in court Wednesday.

The officer involved is a 5 year veteran of the HPD, and is on paid administrative leave during a review of the incident.
