Corey Cobb to undergo mental fitness exam after recent hearing

A Hannibal man, charged with murder in an early-June 2020 shooting, will undergo a mental fitness exam.

One of Corey Cobb's lawyers filed a motion Friday in Marion County Circuit Court, asking for the exam. That came after a hearing the previous day, where according to court records, Cobb himself made a motion for a continuance and a request to fire his attorney. Both were denied. Those records say that Cobb was "very agitated, sweating, repeatedly interrupted his attorney and the judge, and refused a drug test." The request for the exam was granted at a hearing Monday afternoon, and that exam will cause Cobb's three-day trial on February 7th to be delayed. Cobb's pleaded Not Guilty to one count of 2nd Degree Murder. He's accused in the June 4, 2020 shooting death of 45-year old Billy Williams of Hannibal. He died of his wounds at Hannibal Regional Hospital. The incident happened at a home in the 2100 block of Gordon Street. Cobb was returned to Marion County in mid-June 2020, after being arrested two days earlier in the St. Louis area by U.S. Marshals.

Cobb's in the Marion County Jail on $1 million cash-only bond.
