Goal is to have renovations done by end of 2025

A capital campaign was launched Tuesday to raise $2 million to renovate the History Museum on the Square at 4th and Maine in Quincy.

The Historical Society of Quincy and Adams County has already procured a $1.5 million construction grant from the State of Illinois to build a 3,700 square foot extension on the historic building to make it handicap accessible on all floors and to expand museum space. Now, another $2 million must be raised to complete the expansion and upgrades. To date, the local fundraising crew has 20% of the goal in their coffers, or about $400,000. The new ground floor entrance and elevator on the west of what was originally the 1888 public library will allow accessibility to all floors of the museum. Handicap accessible bathrooms will be added. Eventually, exhibit space will be added to explore the area's rich history.

The goal is to have the renovation done by the end of 2025, Adams County's bicentennial year.
