MO Supreme Court rules unanimously against Judge Chris Kunza Mennemeyer

A Pike County, Missouri judge has been suspended without pay for six months.

The Missouri Supreme Court ruled unanimously Tuesday on the suspension for Pike and Lincoln County Judge Chris Kunza Mennemeyer. The justices found that Mennemeyer committed misconduct based on a 2014 complaint filed by the State Public Defender System. They claimed that Mennemeyer routinely postponed appointing public defenders to indigent defendants in probation violation cases, so that the public defender couldn't disqualify her. The complain also said that Mennemeyer threatened to discipline any public defender who entered an appearance in advance of their appointment date.

Mennemeyer, after first filing a complaint against the action, later withdrew it. Her suspension will start February 1st. The full Court opinion is available below.
