Gavin Masters to be re-sentenced in June
A Quincy man, sentenced to over 100 years in prison for the 2015 shooting death of a Quincy man, will be re-sentenced in June.
Gavin Masters will be re-sentenced in Adams County Circuit Court June 21st, after the Illinois 4th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in December that Judge Robert Adrian failed to fully consider if Masters's 115-year sentence violated his Constitutional rights. Masters's lawyer Curtis Lovelace had argued that Masters wasn't emotionally mature when he committed the shootings, and had a report prepared by a psychiatrist. Adrian dismissed the claims. Adams County Judge Tad Brenner will preside over the re-sentencing.
Masters was sentenced to 70 years in prison for the July 4th, 2015 shooting death of 21-year-old Randy Bowser-Smith, and to 45 years for the attempted murder of 21-year-old Skyler Osborne. The shooting left Osborne permanently paralyzed below the waist.
